Bill Clark
Secretary
Bill, a seasoned peace officer with over 35 years of experience, retired from his full-time role as the assistant chief at the Monterey Police Department in 2020. Upon retirement, he was sworn in as a reserve officer and assigned to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Task Force. This part-time, volunteer position allows him to continue his passion for investigating and solving cold cases.
Throughout his career, Bill has been involved in cold case investigations. His first cold case, the 1981 abduction, sexual assault and murder of a woman in Monterey, was finally closed in 2002 with the successful identification and prosecution of the murderer. At the time, this achievement marked California’s oldest “Cold Hit” of an offender in the newly established CODIS DNA database.
In 2005, Bill formed the, “Peninsula Cold Case Project.” This initiative brought together detectives from various law enforcement agencies on the Monterey Peninsula to present and investigate their unsolved murders. This early collaborative effort resulted in the closure of several unsolved homicides.
In 2013, Bill took on the role as the first supervisor of the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT). During his tenure as both supervisor and then commander, Bill made it a priority to ensure that unsolved homicides were not forgotten. Alongside the team’s other objectives, PRVNT successfully investigated and closed multiple cold cases.
A member of the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Task Force since its inception, this county-wide effort has proven an invaluable resource to local law enforcement agencies in both their investigation and closure of cold cases.
Bill’s extensive experience in cold case investigations makes him an invaluable asset to the board. He is committed to furthering the mission and vision of the Cold Case Project of Monterey County.
